A mom of a 4year old girl posted on Facebook about pointing out the disadvantages of letting the child watch whatever they want without supervision. As social media works to give entertainment, information and learning like Facebook, Instagram, Tiktok and such sites offer today’s youth a portal for entertainment and communication and have grown exponentially in recent years. For this reason, it is important that parents become aware of the nature of social media sites, given that not all of them are healthy environments for children and adolescents. Pediatricians are in a unique position to help families understand these sites and to encourage healthy use and urge parents to monitor for potential problems with cyberbullying, “Facebook depression,” sexting, and exposure to inappropriate content.

It is of great danger to the kids nowadays to let them use the gadgets without proper supervision from parents and whatever they may be watching can either influence them as they are developing or can harm them in anyways that may even cause their lives.

One of the parents shared her experience which makes her too afraid to let her daughter use a gadget. See hew post here:

‼️‼️NO MORE TIKTOK FOR FREYA.‼️‼️She saw a video of a kid hanging him/herself and then she tried copying it using the venetian blinds pull cords in our bedroom. She wrapped her neck 3 times then jumped. Thank God I was there when it happened. 🙏 I just can’t imagine, paano kung wala ako that time? Paano kung nag-CR ako?? Paano kung may binili ako sa labas?? 😰”Tinali kasi yun sa leeg tapos naging multo na yung bata.” – that’s how she described the video. My innocent 4yo baby girl almost lost her life because of some stupid Tiktok video.
