The fuel that they’re using is a Thorium.

A thorium is a radioactive actinide metal, chemical element with symbol Th.

Alvin Martin Weinberg is an American nuclear physicist and according in this video Alvin invented the light water reactor. In 1960’s as being a director he pursues another idea called the molten salt reactor.

This idea stated that instead of working high pressure with a solid fuel made of uranium he work it low pressure using liquid fuel that made of thorium. The advantages of thorium is that it can produce 90 times the amount of energy as much of uranium and also a fraction of waste which the waste isn’t useful to create explosives.

This reactor is considered as walk away safe it simply means it is safe to use this chemical because it rely on physics not machine nor human can keep the reaction under control.
