3 Family Members Arrested After Caught Gambling Using Cash Received from Government

Three (3) members of the family got arrested due to gambling involvement amid stricter Enhance Community Quarantine (ECQ).

According to the report, these 3 members of the family recently received financial assistance from the government and they are caught gambling using the money assisted to them by the government.

The suspects were arrested at their home on Saturday, at Sitio 2, Barangay 37, Calayab, Loaoag City for violating the enhance community quarantine protocols.

During the actual operation, authorities confiscated P372 cash bet and cards from the 2 women and 1 man involved in the gambling incident. Two of the suspects admitted that they recently received cash assistance from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) amounting to P5,500 each.

Under the Social Amelioration Program (SAP) of the government, the DSWD is the in-charged of selecting beneficiaries including the Persons with Disability (PWD) Senior Citizens, Pregnant Mothers, Single Parents, Overseas Filipino in Distress, who are affected by the ECQ.

The three person arrested will face charges for violating Presidential Decree 1602 or Anti-Gambling Law and possibly be charged also for violating the ECQ.

Reportedly, many beneficiaries were arrested after receiving financial assistance from the government including the 4P’s and SAP beneficiaries who are involved in illegal activities such as gambling, illegal cockfighting, and drugs.
