Following the confirmation of African Swine Flue case in Leyte. The provincial government of Negros Occidental implements a ban on entry of live pigs, boar semen, pork, and other pork related products and food Items from Eastern Visayas

According to source, the governor ordered the pursuant of Provincial Ordinance 2019-024 or the ASF Prevention Ordinance of Negros Occidental, other areas may be covered once affected with African Swine Flue (ASF)

Since 2019, the province has been banning the entry of pork and pork products coming from the areas of Luzon and Mindanao hit by the dreaded disease affecting swine

Lacson chairperson of Negros Occidental Task Force declared the banning entry of pork products from Region 8

” I hereby declare the banning on the entry of live pigs, boar semen, pork, pork products and other related food items from Region 7”

Pork ban covers the following provinces

  • Leyte
  • Southern Leyte
  • Biliran
  • Samar
  • Eastern Samar
  • Northern Samar

Meanwhile, Lacson urged the public by stressing ”Let us participate and be involved in the implementation of ASF ordinance and national policies regarding pig and pork products movement”

The devastating effect of ASF outbreaks in Luzon resulted in huge storage of pork supply in the area resulting to increase in price to almost double from 220 to 400 per kilo
