Vice President and Education Secretary Sara Duterte announced on Monday that school uniforms are not required to lessen the financial burden on families of learners.

“Even before the pandemic, it was not a strict requirement for public schools to wear uniforms to avoid incurring additional costs to the families of our learners. All the more that it will not be required this School Year given the increasing prices and economic losses due to the pandemic,” Vice President Sara Duterte stated.

A netizen, Joms P Hao (on Facebook), shared his thoughts about the vice president’s statement last Monday. He said that school uniforms is a must since it equalizes the students and removes the additional pressures of deciding what to wear to school.

“The rich and the poor will wear the same clothes. Nobody’s self-esteem will be downed for having old and jologs clothes. Nobody will be shy for having few clothes in the wardrobe kaya paulit-ulit ang suot,” he added.
